STEAM at the CCC
According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics) careers are growing at a rapid rate. The CCC’s Out-of-School Time staff are hard at work preparing our future scientists, engineers, computer programmers and mathematicians. Our after school and summer programs give kids a wide variety of STEAM activities to engage in, drawing from the skills and experiences of CCC staff and our partner organizations in the Cambridge STEAM community.
Green ProgramThe CCC Green Program consists of weekly science and gardening classes using our 500 square feet of organic gardening space planted with fruits, vegetables, and flowers, and ongoing compost and recycling. Our classes also aim to encourage healthy eating habits by teaching basic cooking classes using produce from our garden and local farms.

MinecraftEDUMinecraft is a sandbox style computer game that allows users to explore, build, navigate, and problem solve in virtual worlds. At CCC, we use Minecraft to teach critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, navigation, planning, and persistence. In the upcoming school year, we plan to activities designed to expose kids to basic coding through Minecraft, Code.org, and Scratch.

Art ProgrammingOur multidisciplinary art program draws from the experience of CCC staff, volunteers, and interns. Classes are offered year round in dance, gymnastics, visual arts, arts and crafts, and music and movement. The goal of our art programming is to create a safe space for kids to explore their creativity while introducing them to a variety of artistic elements and interesting media. Building a sense of community with art as a medium is also an important goal and this is done by through collaborative projects and initiatives to improve our space.
