90th Anniversary Fund
The Cambridge Community Center's 90th Anniversary Fund was announced on February 5, 2019 with an initial contribution of $50,000 from Capital One. The 90th Fund will help make ongoing investments that grow our programs and improve our historic building. This yearlong fundraising campaign enables our supporters to help us celebrate our past and write our next chapter.
90 years ago, a group of Black pastors founded CCC in The Coast neighborhood because the YMCA at the time was for whites-only. The pastors were committed to creating an inclusive space that responded to the growing inequalities and lack of opportunities in the community. Since January 29, 1929, and from our 137-year-old historic building, we have served generations of children, youth, and families throughout Cambridge.
Our guiding principle has never changed: we work to respond to the evolving needs of the most vulnerable residents in Cambridge with high quality programs and services that help alleviate disparities due to ethnicity and socioeconomic status. Thousands of individuals and groups use our facilities throughout the year by participating in our programs and services or by using our space for meetings and events. Our commitment to the community is most evident in the people we serve and engage with, many of whom come from families that have been involved with the Center for up to four or five generations.
Our largest program is our year-round Out-of-School Time Program, serving children, youth, and their families. Through this initiative, we service more than 500 individuals annually. Offerings for children include after school and summer camp. Our youth programs focus on creative arts, mental health and cultural competency, workforce development and 21st century skills, and community engagement and storytelling. We also offer community programs, including the Cambridge Winter Farmers Market, The Coast Kitchen community dinners, and our annual Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon, which are all open the public and accessible to everyone. We do all of this and more with an operating budget of under $1 million. None of this important work is possible without our donors, partners, volunteers, and clients who deeply believe in our enduring mission.
We plan to expand the scope of our services to provide all-day affordable preschool as well as diverse community programs to better engage and support our community members. This expansion of services will require a much needed upgrade to our 137-year-old facility to better meet the needs of those we serve. Please consider partnering with us by making a donation to our 90th Anniversary Fund and support the next 90 years of our work as we continue empowering youth, individuals, and families in Cambridge to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.
